Vehicle Mechanic

RAF Brize Norton, OX18 3LX

Full Time, 37 hours

RAF Brize Norton is based in Carterton, Oxfordshire and is the largest station of the Royal Airforce. Serco has been providing multi-activity and engineering support to RAF Brize Norton since 1997. 'Brize' is the Main Operating Base for the RAF's entire air transport and air-to-air refuelling fleets and is the largest station in the Royal Air Force with approximately 5,800 service personnel, 1,200 contractors and 300 civilian staff members.

We have an opening for an experienced Vehicle Mechanic/ GEF Technician to join our team. The Serco GEF Technician is responsible for the effective delivery of the contracted engineering services and maintenance activities. It should be noted that the Authority - RAF Brize Norton is responsible for the provision of facilities and equipment required to deliver the contracted output. The successful post holder must ensure they retain an effective working knowledge of current regulatory requirements including; Serco Management System, appropriate MoD legislation and local Serco and RAF Brize Norton processes and procedures. It goes without saying that you must ensure the compliance with appropriate Quality Systems and notify the Serco GEF Team Leader and/or Engineering Manager, whenever deficiencies emerge that require their attention in respect of safety, risk compliance and engineering standards. You must ensure/monitor that the Authority provides: Adequate facilities appropriate to the planned work.

Sufficient Tools, equipment and materials to perform the planned tasks. You may be required to perform other tasks which are reasonable and relevant to Serco at RAF Brize Norton as directed by the Contract Manager and the Serco Engineering Manager.

What you need to do the job:

 

The successful post holder must hold a valid Engineering BTEC ONC/ NVQ Level 3 or equivalent Mechanical Engineering Training. Additionally, you must have gained experience and competence in the engineering maintenance environment. It is imperative that you understand the impact of decisions on the safety on maintenance activities. You should also have experience and competence to supervise and control personnel performing maintenance activities. This role requires you to have the ability to attain Security Clearance. You must hold a Civilian Driving Licence (less than 6 penalty points).
