Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
The council signed the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant in February 2019 and currently holds the Silver level ERS award. We established the Civil Military Partnership Board to encourage support for the Armed Forces Community working and residing in Basildon.
As part of our commitment to the Covenant we grant additional paid leave to Reservists to attend training and have a framework to support mobilisation should it be needed. We already employ a number of ex-Service Personnel and are looking at how we can encourage more applications.
Any former member of the Armed Forces who is homeless or is planning to leave the Armed Forces and faces the threat of homelessness can talk to an Advisor for advice & assistance. For housing register applications, Forces personnel may qualify under the Armed Forces local residence exceptions. Our Housing Allocation Scheme states how we will deal with and support Armed Forces personnel.
We support and celebrate Armed Forces Day every year.
About us
Basildon Borough council are a public sector organisation who serve five towns, Basildon, Wickford, Billericay, Laindon and Pitsea. Basildon is a new town, which was founded 71 years ago in 1949 as part of the ‘new towns act’ to deal with post-war housing and overcrowding issues in London. The main purpose of Basildon Council is to offer and provide services to the borough's 190,000 residents. Basildon council offers a wide range of services to its residents, these include things such as refuse (bin collections and recycling), planning, housing services, revenues and benefits. BBC employ around 900 staff to ensure that these services are delivered efficiently. We are currently under a huge period of growth with plans to develop and grow the borough and town.
