Breckland Council

Description

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

Breckland District Council fully upholds and supports the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant.

At the Council we recognise the value that service leavers, veterans, reservists, and military families bring, whilst also understanding the nuanced challenges they can face. We aim to support the Armed Forces Community in many ways, including:

  • Supporting employees who are members of the Reserve forces, by providing them ten days paid leave a year for training.
  • Awarding veterans an additional 6 months on their housing register application.
  • Our agile working policy, which provides greater flexibility for staff to balance work with their other commitments.

We are always looking to gain a greater understanding, and do more, to support the Armed Forces Community.

About us

At Breckland Council our approach is to lead change rather than follow it, and to add the best value we can to our communities. We achieve this by developing our employees to their full potential, providing them with the relevant knowledge, equipment, and authority to carry out their duties.

We are a dynamic and innovative organisation that is always testing and learning as we seek to continually improve. Never one to stand still in response to the emergence of new opportunities and changing customer demands, we have exciting plans for how we deliver the best possible services to our residents and businesses.

We offer excellent conditions of service including a local government pension scheme, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, agile working arrangements, as well as a newly refurbished office. We are committed to career advancement and talent development and support on the job learning, upskilling, and training. We want everyone to contribute to our organisational goals and plans; we do this through collaboration, trust, and empowerment between colleagues.
