Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
FHDC were the first local council to sign the Armed Forces Covenant in December 2011, demonstrating our commitment to supporting the veteran and serving armed forces community within the district. The council recognises the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces community and commits to fair treatment and no disadvantage in the provision of our services.
The district has a long tradition of cooperation between its civilian community and local armed forces. Folkestone played a pivotal role in both world wars and is the site for the WW1 Memorial Arch. We are also proud of our relationship with the Royal Gurkha Rifles based in Folkestone since 1984.
We are committed to being an Armed Forces friendly employer. We recognise the positive contribution that reservists and veterans make to our workforce. They bring skills and experience that are of huge benefit to the Council and our residents. We acknowledge that they may sometimes require additional support or flexibility from us as their employer and we commit to providing this support whenever possible.
