Houses of Parliament Restoral and Renewal Programme

Description

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

As a newly established major infrastructure programme building on the successes of recent UK wide programmes we have a specific focus on equality, diversity and inclusion, sustainability, skills and learning.  With a number of veterans and reservists within the team we signed the Covenant shortly after becoming substantive and continue to work to achieve beyond our current bronze level accreditation.  As part of our commitments we actively seek to employ veterans, reservists, spouses and cadet force community volunteers mindful of the benefits bestowed on these individuals due to their voluntary activity.  We have established a steering group to continue to develop Armed Forces initiatives which all new joiners are invited to participate in.  We also offer five days paid leave per annum to reservists to assist them to attend training.

About us

The Palace of Westminster is the home of our democracy and a workplace for thousands of people. The building has played a unique role in our political history for 900 years and now it needs urgent repair.  Today the Palace of Westminster is falling apart faster than it can be repaired. Many features have not been renovated since it was built in the 19th century. The longer the essential work is left, the greater the risk of a catastrophic failure from fire, flooding or stone fall, bringing the work of Parliament to a sudden halt.  The Restoration and Renewal Programme has been set up to tackle all the work that needs to be done to protect the Palace’s heritage and ensure it can continue to serve as the home of the UK Parliament in the 21st century and beyond.  The R&R Programme will create a variety of employment opportunities throughout the lifecycle of the project, from programme management and corporate services through to design, engineering, specialist trades and conservation roles.
