Mears Group PLC

Description

Mears Group Support to the Armed Forces Community

Mears Group is committed to honouring the Armed Forces Covenant and to support the Armed Forces community. We also continue to participate in the Employer Recognition Scheme, for which we are a Gold Award holder and also a mentor to other aspiring companies.

We recognise the value and contribution that Veterans, members of the Reserve Forces, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAV) and the Spouses / Partners of serving personnel make, to the UK Armed Forces, their communities and Mears.

Mears recognises the many skills that are gained during Military service and which are transferable to the workplace, including adaptability, organisation, communication, team work and leadership. In addition to the many skills that spouses / partners of serving personnel also have, including the resilience they have gained, through being part of the Armed Forces community.

Equally, Mears recognises that the mobile lifestyle of the Armed Forces, can make finding appropriate employment more difficult. Because of this, Mears aims to assist with their search for employment, by regularly attending Career Transition Partnership (CTP) events across the Country. These Employment Fairs allow Mears the opportunity to network directly, with skilled and experienced armed forces leavers and their spouses / partners, and also promote the many opportunities available within Mears.

Mears recruitment team ensures that all current vacancies are posted on the various Job Boards utilised by the Armed Forces Community. We also provide a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for those who apply for jobs with Mears, provided they meet the key criteria for the role. We also provide (where possible), short duration work placements to help gain experience and complete elements of practical assessments for qualifications being undertaken during resettlement.

We have a dedicated Armed Forces (Reservists, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, Veterans and Service Spouses) Policy to ensure that our workforce is aware of the Mears positive policies towards Defence People issues. The policy also sets out our commitment to support mobilisations and also our arrangements for staff to receive additional fully paid leave in support of their military commitments.

Mears has an enhanced understanding and appreciation of the Armed Forces through its active engagement at military events and also through its support to the Tri Service Charities.

Mears are also Registered Corporate Partners of the Royal British Legion. We actively promote their work throughout our business. We support Remembrance commemorations, in addition to taking part in various sporting events to help raise valuable funds for this very important charity.
