Mercury Theatre

Description

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

We are proud to be a Forces Friendly employer. We are currently the only theatre in the country to be recognised on the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. We have held our silver award since 2016 and work hard to support, nurture and value the large garrison community we have in our town. We pride ourselves on flexible working, supporting working parents and their family’s changing situations, and nurturing talent in individuals from all backgrounds and experience.

Current and past Mercury staff include veterans, armed forces spouses and reservists in a variety of roles ranging from box office and bar staff to theatre technicians and facilities management. We have also partnered with the local barracks to deliver creative work, garrison family ticket rates and specific youth theatre workshops for military children.

About us

The Mercury is an artistic powerhouse in the East – a vital, vibrant, welcoming centre of culture for the people of Colchester, Essex and beyond.

The theatre takes its name from the Roman messenger god, Mercury. It was Mercury’s task to connect the people with the gods, and so, in keeping with our name, connection is at the heart of everything we do.
