Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
Mildenhall College Academy (MCA) is fully committed to supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families, particularly in suitable areas of employment. The Principal, Miss Hood, is herself an ex Reservist of a front-line combat unit and the current staff includes ex-military personnel, spouses of military personnel, ex and serving and, in addition children of United States military personnel from USAF Lakenheath and Mildenhall. MCA currently holds the Military Covenant Silver Award for the Employer Recognition Scheme. Our School also supports Military Cadet associations; the Mildenhall branch of The ACF parade weekly within our premises. As an employer we recognise the many desirable transferable skills that ex-military personnel will bring to the workplace not least their organisational skills, focus, work ethic and vocational experience.
About us
Mildenhall College Academy is an 11-18 secondary academy with over 1100 students on roll. We are part of the Academy Transformation Trust which has over 20 academies and as an individual academy we employ over 80 teachers and over 100 non-teaching staff. Founded in 1976 and formerly an upper school with pupils aged 13-18 the school became a community 11-18 (mixed) school operating across two sites in 2012. In order to raise standards further the academy re-structured again in 2014 bringing Years 7-11 on to one site (Bury Road) and developing a bespoke Sixth Form centre at the Sheldrick Way site, now called MCA6.
The academy is currently being rebuilt on the sixth form site as part of the Mildenhall Hub project and is due to move in October 2020. This is part of a much larger community development called the Mildenhall Hub. The hub will house the secondary school, the Sixth Form centre, leisure centre and swimming pools, District Council offices, health clinics, library and public forum/café.
MCA is a split site i.e. it has a separate 6th form centre. We have a new school site currently being built and this school, from years 8 to 11 is on three floors. There is full disability access to all school areas and an internal elevator for staff and students. The 6th form also has disability access and an internal student and staff elevator
