Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
As a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, the Military Wives Choirs commits to uphold its promise that serving personnel, veterans and their families be treated fairly. We understand that military families are affected by an often-transitory way of life. Military Wives Choirs is a network, across the UK and overseas, which exists to ensure all women in the Armed Forces community have access to well-being and emotional support, wherever they are.
We are also committed to offering training and development opportunities to our beneficiaries. Choir members gain valuable experience by volunteering on a committee, with access to training resources and an annual Committees’ Day with role-specific sessions for skills development. We also employ 75 Musical Directors, many of whom are also part of the Armed Forces community, providing professional development opportunities as part of their relationship with the charity through collaboration, training and large-scale projects.
With over 2,000 members, we can share with them directly details of support services and further opportunities of which they may otherwise be unaware.
About us
With 75 choirs and more than 2,000 members in British military bases across the UK and overseas, the Military Wives Choirs is a charity that brings all women in the military community, not just wives, closer together and empowers them through singing. The emphasis is on all women: the choirs contain wives of serving personnel, but also those currently serving, veterans, mothers, sisters and daughters, and others with a military connection.
As both an independent charity and subsidiary of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, the Military Wives Choirs work as part of the SSAFA family in their mission to relieve need, suffering and distress amongst the Armed Forces, veterans and their families in order to support their independence and dignity as a charity run by, for and with women in the military community.
