Monmouthshire County Council

Description

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) was one of the first local authorities in Wales to sign the Armed Forces Covenant in October 2012.  MCC reaffirmed its commitment to working with its armed forces community with a Covenant re-signing ceremony, together with our five Town Councils who signed the Covenant for the first time.

MCC ensures that members of the Armed Forces Community have the same access to services as any other citizen.  We are an Armed Forces Friendly employer and we recognise the benefit that the diversity and wide-range of unique skills and experiences that reservists and veterans can bring to our workforce.  We have introduced a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for Service Leavers, spouses and reservists where they meet the essential criteria of the advertised role.

MCC takes every opportunity to commemorate and celebrate armed forces events and recognise the contribution that veterans have made in service to their country and that which current serving personnel continue to make.

About us

Monmouthshire is an incredible place blessed with wonderful people and strong communities. It’s the sort of place where people want to spend time because it is beautiful here. Monmouthshire is a large and semi-rural county with our five main towns of Abergavenny, Monmouth, Usk, Caldicot, and Chepstow.

MCC is a very forward-thinking and progressive council. Monmouthshire values are:

  • Openness:  We aspire to be open and honest to develop trusting relationships.
  • Fairness:  We aspire to provide fair choice, opportunities and experiences and become an organisation built on mutual respect.
  • Flexibility:  We aspire to be flexible in our thinking and action to become an effective and efficient organisation.
  • Teamwork:  We aspire to work together to share our successes and failures by building on our strengths and supporting one another to achieve our goals.

Each year MCC promotes Armed Forces Week and Reservists Day as well as marking special dates throughout the year with tributes and workplace gatherings.
