Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
In February 2018 Securitas signed the Armed Forces Covenant. The security industry already welcomes a high number of former service personnel, due to these individuals possessing key skills that can be easily transferred to a number of roles in the sector. Securitas says it is particularly proud to employ a large number of service leavers in a variety of front line and management roles, and is hoping to significantly increase this figure in the coming years. Andy Hill, area director at Securitas, served with the armed forces for 19 years before joining the firm in 2009. He said he was proud to see his organisation make such a solid commitment to service leavers.
“Initially after leaving, I found it difficult to engage with employers as they were not able to identify how my skills and experience could be of benefit in their workplace,” Mr Hill commented.
“As a result, I decided to enter the security industry, starting off as a self-employed security consultant, as it was a natural transition with my security-specific skills.”
He went on to highlight how military training instils a number of attributes, such as resilience, vigilance, self-discipline and an appreciation of risk and threat.
“It’s important that potential employers, in all sectors, understand how these valuable skills can be of benefit,” Mr Hill added.
“Securitas recognises the value of serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families in business.”
