Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
South Somerset District Council are signatories to the Somerset Armed Forces Covenant and are members of the Somerset Armed Forces Covenant Partnership. The council has a designated lead officer for the Covenant and an elected member champion.
SSDC is also a member of the SW Covenant Consortium of councils that successfully bid for Covenant Funds for two projects to promote better awareness and understanding amongst local authority members and staff of the Armed Forces Community and Covenant.
In relation to applications for social housing many of the restrictions faced by members of the armed forces community regarding proving a local connection have been removed.
As part of the roll out of a new Learning Management System for staff, an eLearning module on the Armed Forces Community and Covenant has been included. This will help improve the customer experience of members of the Armed Forces community when seeking assistance from the council.
The council is also in the process of applying for the Employers Recognition Scheme Bronze Award.
