Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

St.Helens Council signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2012. Bringing together local armed forces regiments, charities and associations with public sector partners in health, housing, education, leisure, and employment to develop a network of support for the Armed Forces Community in our borough - Regulars, Reservists, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, Cadets, Veterans, and family members of the aforementioned.

St.Helens Council's Reservist and Armed Forces Community Employment Policy provides:

(i) A guaranteed interview scheme for Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, Reservist, and Veterans

(ii) Up to 10 days additional paid leave per annum to cover Reservist and Cadet Force Adult Volunteer annual camp commitments

(iii) Unlimited unpaid leave for any period of mobilisation that a Reservist employee undertakes

(iv) Special consideration in relation to leave requests for employees who are Parents, Spouses, Partners, or Children of Regular or Reserve Forces Personnel who are affected by unforeseen circumstances linked to their family member’s Service

Our Council is one of the six local Merseyside authorities that make up the Liverpool City Region. Situated strategically at the heart of the North West and central to the ‘Northern Powerhouse, the borough also enjoys strong connections to Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire.

We provide the full range of local authority services to resident, businesses, schools and visitors to the borough, either directly or through commissioning or partnership arrangements.

The services delivered include a broad range of people-based services, such as care services for older people, vulnerable adults and people with disabilities, children’s centres and early year’s services, school support and improvement, support for children with special educational needs, fostering and adoption services, public health services, benefits administration, housing and homelessness support and libraries and leisure services. We also deliver many ‘place’ based services such as waste and recycling, street cleansing, licensing, planning and development permissions, environmental health and trading standards, maintenance of highways, footpaths, parks and open spaces, and many more.
