Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust is committed to supporting the Armed Forces community recognising the value serving personnel, Reservists, Veterans and military families bring to our organisation. We strive to support the values of the Armed Forces Covenant in a number of ways, including: 

  • Offering work placements to the Armed Forces community and providing support to those who apply for a vacancy.
  • Supporting our employees who choose to be a member of the Reserve Forces including providing paid time for essential training as per our Employing Staff in the Reserve Forces policy.
  • Endeavouring to provide a degree of flexibility in granting leave for Services spouses and partners before, during and after a partner’s deployment.
  • Partnering with other NHS and third sector organisations to share best practice and provide support to the Armed Forces community.
  • Working with our Forces network to create a supportive working environment and improve the experiences for colleagues from a Forces community background while also encouraging all colleagues within the Trust to understand the needs and experiences of individuals within this community.

About us

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust is an NHS Foundation Trust in North West England, providing hospital and community services in South Cumbria and North Lancashire in the Morecambe Bay area. 

Serving a population of around 365,000, the Trust operates from three main hospital sites: Furness General Hospital in Barrow, Royal Lancaster Infirmary in Lancaster and Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal.

Furness General Hospital and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary have a range of 'General Hospital' services, with full Accident & Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and Consultant led beds. 

Westmorland General Hospital provides a smaller range of General Hospital services, together with a Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).

All three sites provide a range of planned care, including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day-case and inpatient surgery. In addition we provide community services from a number of sites including Ulverston and Queen Victoria in Morecambe.
