University of Lincoln

Description

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

The University of Lincoln recognises the importance of the interaction with the Armed Forces not only in respect of the primary promotion of the regular and reservist recruitment but also in respect of our location and recruitment strategy. Acknowledging our location and the density of armed forces bases surrounding our campus, the mobility of personnel provides the University with an opportunity to fill skill gaps and diversify our workplace culture through the availability of not only service leavers but also their spouses and family. The armed forces relocation often presents us with an opportunity to appoint an individual whom without the armed forces connections would not have previously considered working in Lincoln.

Whilst within the workplace the spouses/family of military personnel are supported by a number of specific policies that are in place to ensure that they are not disadvantaged through their connection and in promotion of the University as an employer. These include policies that:

- Allow additional paid leave of 5 days per year to allow for care of service members or to be able to assist with temporary medical treatment, recuperation or illness which has occurred during active duty.

- Additional paid leave to attend services and occasions organised by the armed forces or of significant impact upon the family life including homecomings, parades and R and R.

- Sickness absence policy allowing for full pay for all absence.

- The ability to purchase additional leave.

- Flexible working policy to allow for the option of interaction with armed forces working patterns.

- Enhanced parental leave policies allowing for enhanced paid periods of parental absence.

- Paid elder care leave supporting the additional responsibility in the absence of a serving family member to care for elders.

- Annual leave entitlements of up to 30 days with an additional 14 closure days incorporating the Christmas period.
