LEARNING something new and expanding your horizons with Forces Families Jobs

For military spouses and partners, starting a course in a traditional local college setting requires more thought than for our civilian counterparts. Aside from the usual decisions to make about which course to do, how to pay for it, childcare etc, we also must think about timing. The big question being: if I start this course, do I have time to finish it before my Serving partner’s posting in this location ends? Historically many spouses were unable to complete their own studies, but with our new-found appreciation of technology, we can study remotely –and best of all, this means we can take our studies with us! We talk to some our FFJ training providers who offer a remote study experience to you.

Active IQ

Active IQ offer the opportunity to study for a Level 2 Award in Mental Health Awareness as a distance learning opportunity and at a discounted rate for military families.

Gavin Baxter is a business consultant at Active IQ and he explains: “We recently signed the Armed Forces Covenant as we recognise the selfless commitment the Armed Forces and their families make on a daily basis for our country.” Having served as a Reservist himself, Gavin understands the close link between the military life and mental health awareness. He tells us, “The mental health awareness qualification has been one of the most popular in the last 12 months. We have had several individuals from the military community take this course for their own self-awareness to support family and friends.”

This course is designed to enable participants to upskill without a tutor, so it is delivered remotely with eLearning, eManual and eClinics.
You can complete the course at time that suits you and from anywhere in the world – so even an overseas posting wouldn’t have to prevent you from completing the course!

Reson-8 Creative Training

Or perhaps you’d like to learn a new skill or hobby? In the stressful world we live in, learning anew craft and focusing upon something new can give us the ‘time out’ that we often struggle to fit into our busy lives. And if it helps us to make our own beautiful items to break up the magnolia in our SFA, then all the better!

Norman Reay, of Reson-8 Creative Training explains:

“We offer two different courses: the first one being a Beginners’ Introduction to Resin and Resin Art, the second being a three-day Resin Installers Workshop, both which are available to complete beginners.”
Being the son of a serviceman, Norman understands the difficulties that military families face and is keen to be able to make this offer as accessible as possible.

Information on both courses can be found online: www.forcesfamiliesjobs.co.uk/discounted-training
