Job Description

Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) are building brand-new assets that we own and operate, due to our ambitious £2.2Bn capital programme which will create a greener, more sustainable and better-connected transport network for the region.

Our Asset team, part of the newly established Delivery Directorate, is actively seeking an experienced Asset Manager to provide technical expertise and establish a robust asset management function that ensures a seamless transition from the construction phase of major schemes to the operation teams. This is an integral role for the organisation as you will oversee policies and processes for managing new assets and ensure that completed projects have comprehensive asset management plans.

This role involves collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams and demands technical knowledge, from understanding how assets are being built to recognising how they need to be managed and maintained. You will work with project teams to meticulously document and collate information related to the costs of operation and maintenance and ensure that we have all relevant documentation stored for each asset. Working on ambitious projects including supporting with the implementation of new asset management software, Dudley Interchange and Sprint Phase 2, you will advise on anything asset related including the upkeep of assets and determining when upgrades will need to be scheduled.

What you will be doing

  • Lead the creation, establishment, and delivery of the Delivery Directorate’s asset management function.
  • Ensure the future asset management and maintenance implications of detailed designs and construction are adequately defined, costed and embedded into project development activities.
  • Responsible for ensuring that delivery teams are producing comprehensive asset management plans.
  • Ensure assets are in compliance with relevant standards, operational and stakeholder requirements.
  • Interpret, analyse, and write complex technical reports that cover all aspects of asset management.
  • Manage and direct the activities and performance of consultants.
  • Prepare reports for senior management, elected members, WMCA committees, programme boards and Local Cabinet.

About you

  • Background in Asset Management ideally within the transport/construction sector
  • Demonstrable experience developing whole life strategy, policy and processes for Asset Management
  • Experience of Asset Management standards such as ISO55001
  • Knowledge of legal implications surrounding asset management
  • Strong organisation and project management skills
  • Appropriate professional memberships e.g. APM, ICE, CIHT

The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane, with regular site visits required. It is expected that you can split your time between the office and working remotely, with at least 3 days a week spent in the office.
