The post is fixed term Maternity cover, based at County Hall, Haverfordwest, Hybrid working will also be available.

Pembrokeshire County Council has a great opportunity for a Building Control Assistant to join the Building Control Team.

Pembrokeshire County Council Building Control Team are a self-financing business unit operating within the local authority. The building control service work with local developers and homeowners to ensure that construction work complies with the requirements of the building regulations. Joining our team will give you a fantastic opportunity to professionally develop and gain further experience.

The appointed individual will assist with the administration of the building control process by providing technical and administrative assistance to the building control team in delivering both the statutory and non-statutory functions of the services.

Key Duties:

  • Undertake the validation of building regulations applications to include measuring and scaling plans to extract floor areas; checking the fees; and processing the payments.
  • Register all types of casework on to the APAS database and GIS system.
  • Provide technical advice to applicants, agents and members of the public with respect to the application process, fee charges and the need to consult external bodies such as Welsh Water and Natural Resources Wales.
  • Liaise with agents and developers on schemes where a bespoke fee is required.
  • Obtain the relevant technical information to enable the appropriate fee to be determined.
  • Liaise with other local Authorities regarding fees for partnership applications.

The appointed individual must also be educated in a Business Administration subject to NVQ level 3 or an equivalent level of education in a relevant subject such as, but not restricted to, Business Studies and Geography.

You will have previous experience in an administrative post and be customer focused with an emphasis on being organised and diligent with an ability to meet deadlines and demonstrate good interpersonal and team skills. Being proficient in the use of IT with experience of using Microsoft Word and Excel is essential. Previous experience of using APAS and GIS Mapping systems is desirable.
