Activities and Responsibilities of the Post

Principle Purpose of the role

Applications are invited for the above post in the Contract and Control Room (CCR) Support Team at PHQ in Martlesham, which offers operational, technical and procedural support to the CCR and the wider Police Community within Suffolk.

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic person with excellent communication and problem solving skills.  You will be responsible for dealing with matters and material of a sensitive nature that requires a high level of accuracy and concentration.

You will be required to offer front line support to staff and some external contact in a variety of areas.  You will administer various computer based systems such as Storm (CAD), Mitel (IP Telephone), and other Operational Systems that are used. 

The successful applicant will be required to be able to work to tight timescales within an small team environment.  You will be expected to prioritise your workload and re prioritise as new issues/problems occur from a day to day basis.  

Main Activities of the Role

  • Administration of CCR based systems such as Storm Multi-Agency Command and Control,  IP Telephony, Radio and Alarm systems.
  • First Line support to all Command and Control Users
  • IP Telephony development and reporting responsibility
  • Undertake project and development work, including testing and documentation of computer software and /or business processes, for example User Guides and Standard Operating procedures
  • Offer help and advice to internal customers on CCR based systems by direct contact or phone/email etc.
  • Carry out audits of systems and procedures as directed by Line Manager
  • Understanding and working knowledge of the CCR and County Policing operational model and other departments for example ICT.
  • Production and creation of statistics and reports of activities undertaken
  • Financial record keeping and management such as payment and accruals
  • Support with Freedom of Information requests
  • Mentoring new support staff as required
  • Any other duties commensurate with the role and grade as may reasonably be requested by line management.

Person Specification

It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate excellent oral, numerical and literacy skills
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of complex technical systems
  • Good keyboard skills with a knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven ability to prioritise, organise, make decisions and complete tasks, especially if within given deadlines
  • Evidence of ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Previous experience of undertaking administrative/technical/financial support and maintaining accurate records
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Data Protection Act and Management of Police Information (MOPI)

It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Previous Control Room and/or operational Police experience
  • Previous experience of administration/problem solving on a day to day basis.
