About this opportunity 
Gleeds Health & Safety advisory provide a full range of Health & Safety services and advice to a variety of clients across numerous sectors throughout the UK. 
With growing demand for services in the South West of England, we are searching for a CDM Consultant to join our Bristol office as we look to establish a Health & Safety hub in the region. 
 
You will be based from our Bristol office, and will have significant input on additional support as we grow our Bristol Health & Safety team further.
 
You will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of surveyors and project managers in the heart of Bristol, from state of the art offices which are home to 100+ Gleeds professionals. 
As a CDM Consultant, you will be responsible for advising clients on health & safety issues relating to a large construction projects, from project initiation to completion. You will have a blended role, involving principal designer work, providing crucial health & safety advice throughout construction / project design phase, as well as monitoring and assessing operational construction sites to ensure health & safety standards are maintained.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Supporting business unit directors in delivering business objectives;
  • Acting as Principal Designer on a range of projects;
  • Attending regular meetings with the design team, client, principal designer and principal contractor;
  • Providing health and safety advice, support and assistance to the project team
  • Positively engaging with our client and developing, growing and maintaining our relationship;
  • Delivering a high quality service which ensures that services meet our client’s requirement;
  • Managing the client’s health safety obligations on the project to deliver a high quality service;
  • Ensuring effective delivery of the Principal Designer role on behalf of internal teams
  • Advising and assisting the client with their duties under the CDM regulations and other construction related health and safety standards, regulations and legislations;
  • Assisting with the coordination of health and safety aspects of design work;
  • Cooperating with others involved with the project;
  • Facilitating good communication between the client, designers and contractors;
  • Liaising with the project design team regarding pre construction design work and risk mitigation
  • Liaising with the principal contractor regarding ongoing design work;
  • Mentoring and coaching employees so that they realise their full potential;
  • Preparing bids for services;
  • Advising directors promptly of any issues that have arisen, or will arise, on projects; in particular those that might impact on Gleeds professional indemnity (PI) insurance;

Who we’re looking for:

To be considered for this position, you will be a health & safety professional with experience acting as Principal Designer and strong CDM skills. You will be able to work autonomously and enjoy working as part of a large multi-disciplined team. You will have both H&S design experience as well as site monitoring / auditing experience. You will be commutable to Bristol and have access to a vehicle, which will be needed for site visits. 

Experience, Knowledge and Key Skills
  • Sound construction related health and safety management experience post Tech IOSH qualification;
  • Experience of delivering services on a live construction site;
  • Cohesive knowledge of construction methods and materials;
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience of construction related health and safety management;
  • Thorough understanding of health and safety legislation relating to construction;
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written;
  • Methodical way of thinking and approach to work;
  • Good problem solving, negotiating skills, financial and numeracy management skills;
  • Ability to prepare first class bids for services;
  • Competent ICT skills, with a high level of proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and lead teams.
Qualifications
  • NEBOSH Construction and General Certificates/Tech IOSH minimum (will be considered with right amount of experience and other qualifications)
  • NEBOSH Diploma/CMIOSH preferred.
  • Design background / experience preferred
  • APS Principal Designer qualification preferred
