To ensure we can deliver our ambitious Highways Transformation we are looking to grow our team of highway engineering professionals and develop talent for the future. 

Our Community Highways team ensure local concerns are prioritised and addressed alongside strategic programmes of highway works - acting as highway ambassadors within communities and as advocates for local communities within the wider service.

Main Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • support a community-based approach to the delivery of the highway service.
  • Respond to highway enquiries, providing advice on budgetary, best practice and legislative constraints
  • Work with elected members and delivery partners to develop a local works programme, identifying and collating priorities, commissioning delivery and ensuring contract compliance, quality and value for money.

The role will cover the Lichfield and/or Tamworth area with an office base in Lichfield, however, flexible working arrangements are available.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have:

  • experience in the delivery of highway work programmes, together with a working knowledge of highway related legislation, regulations, and best practice.
  • the ability to work independently, effectively prioritising  a complex workload.
  • ability to manage a complex workload and respond flexibly to changing circumstances.
  • excellent relationship management skills.   
  • the ability to regularly travel within a geographical area (work van provided).
