We are looking for a Corporate and Sundry Debt Recovery Officer to join us.

This is a full-time permanent role with hybrid working, and a salary from £32,002 to £35,719.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic Corporate/Sundry Debt Recovery Officer to join our team.

 

The Role

Sundry Debt covers debts for which the council has sent an invoice. These debts are wide ranging for example, commercial rents, adult social care, licensing.

The Corporate Sundry Debt Recovery will be the professional lead on Sundry Debt collection providing technical debt recovery input to collection processes and be responsible for best practice in the area of corporate debt. Responsible for following approved processes and ensuring that policies are being adhered to.

This includes being responsible for two members of staff who are involved in the collection of Adult Social Care invoices.

 

You will be responsible for: 

  • Using the council’s Agresso financial system
  • Extracting information from the financial system and using excel to monitor, report, and as a basis for working processes.
  • Managing complex and high-volume information. 
  • Monitoring sundry debts and applying agreed processes to pursue outstanding balances. This includes negotiating payment arrangements with defaulters and arranging enforcement action where appropriate.
  • Providing supervision and guidance for two members of staff. 
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to obtain information to assist in the collection of debts.
  • Ensuring that matters relating to Adult Social Care debts are dealt with promptly, balancing the need to support the delivery of a personalised service to residents with the need to protect the council’s financial interests.

 

What we are looking for: 

  • Experience of Agresso or other financial system, particularly relating to debt recovery.
  • Good communication skills - being able to communicate effectively and courteously with members of the public and other council departments in writing, by phone, or in person. This includes the ability to communicate well with other staff members when providing guidance and supervision.
  • Excellent IT skills, including the ability to show and present information in an excel format. 
  • A self motivated individual who can work on their own initiative and be solely responsible for an area of work with minimal supervision. This requires the ability to prioritise work, to meet challenging deadlines and to be adaptable to change.
  • The ability to undertake repetitive and high volume of tasks whilst maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
