The role
As a Environmental Practitioner, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Babcock provides services including fleet time engineering, facilities management, waterfront services, logistics and transport within an agreed operating budget, firmly focused on continuous and sustainable improvement in warship and submarine support.

Day to day, your role will include providing professionally competent specialist environmental advice for all operational activities and projects with the ultimate aim of supporting staff throughout HMNB Clyde (Faslane and Coulport) in relation to environmental advice, guidance and meeting the prescribed legal obligations to ensure environmental compliance.

Additionally you will have the following accountabilities:

  • To work closely with all HMNB Clyde Personnel at all levels in providing advice and guidance relating to Environmental compliance obligations.
  • Maintain full compliance with current and future legislation, government targets and MoD Policy in order to minimise business risk from civil and criminal action.
  • Develop and maintain the Environmental Management System in compliance with ISO14001:2015 certification.
  • Produce, maintain, develop and review the HMNB Clyde suite of Environmental documentation in order to ensure procedures and support documents are relevant, comprehensive and archived where appropriate in order to comply with the requirements of ISO14001:2015.
  • Participate in the company audit programme as a specialist Environmental auditor and or lead auditor including management of related non-conformances.
  • Fulfil reporting requirements for HMNB Clyde as directed i.e. permits and licences such as United Kingdom Emissions Trading Scheme (UKETS).

This role is full time 37 hours per week and will be based at Clyde on site. Once the candidate is fully trained and embedded into the role there will be agile working from home arrangements.

Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. Essential experience of the Environmental Practitioner:

  • You will have experience and knowledge in Auditing compliance
  • As well as engaging with regulators
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understanding and knowledge of Statutory regulatory standards
  • Compliant with ISO14001
  • Experience of report writing

Qualifications for the Environmental Practitioner

  • Ideally you will be educated at HND level minimum in Environmental Studies or equivalent .

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
