Job title: Estimating Manager - Value Engineering

Salary: £57,000 depending on experience

What you'll be doing:

  • Providing independent Commercial & Cost Estimating oversight, focussing on opportunity generation and delivery, ensuring all costs and opportunities are collated, modelled and normalised as appropriate
  • Working closely with the supply chain to understand key cost drivers, develop should cost modelling and seek solutions that drive additional value and provide an optimum cost outcome
  • Driving end to end cost control and improvements throughout the Naval Ships business along with embedding the cost management framework and governance into day to day activities
  • Working closely with other functions including supply chain, engineering, manufacturing and programmes to ensure a co-ordinated approach to cost management, mitigating risks, driving cost improvements and implementing cost control

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Able to influence at all levels within the enterprise, listening to the challenges within the sector and across the supply chain in order to develop opportunities
  • Understand and challenge existing ways of working in order to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Familiar with and able to analyse differing types of supplier pricing returns and contracts
  • Ability to create and understand and interpret complex cost models
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good understanding of the use of analytical estimating techniques to challenge and review supply chain cost estimates

Desirable:

  • Experience in delivering strategies that drive cost management improvements across organisation
  • Knowledge of a wide range of procurement approaches and strategies
  • A Commercially focussed background, for example Estimating, Quantity Surveying or Cost Engineering
  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience, likely to be in a technology, engineering, science or IT related discipline

The Cost Modelling team:

The role holder is responsible for providing independent Commercial & Cost Estimating oversight, ensuring all costs and opportunities are collated, modelled and normalised as appropriate. Will be responsible for driving end to end cost control and improvements throughout the Naval Ships business along with embedding the cost management framework and governance into day to day activities.
