Job Description

We are looking for caring, compassionate individuals to work for a front facing and customer focused service within the Integrated Transport Unit (ITU).

About the role

Under the direction of the Operations Lead Officer, you will deliver high quality customer focused services that supports the work of the ITU, which includes such services as Home to School Transport and Community Meals on Wheels. Duties would typically include operating fleet vehicles within a prearranged, structured schedule to convey passengers, or deliver goods and welfare services.

Successful applicants will be fully supported with training and shadowing opportunities as part of an induction and a be part of a dedicated staff team.

This post is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

A valid Class B driving licence is essential for this role.

Typical duties will include; 

  • Deliver front line services to service users in accordance with a journey plan, timetable and/or a delivery manifest, in a timely manner and with a customer focused approach.
  • Undertake client welfare checks at each engagement in line with agreed protocols and instructions on the schedule/plan, reporting any incidents and communicating any variances in accordance with council policy.
  • To position, collect and return council vehicles from multi point locations.
  • Where appropriate, to support services in the upkeep and housekeeping and general maintenance of council assets, such as vehicles, public transport infrastructure and communal areas.
  • To maintain a current, valid driving licence (minimum of a Category B) and submit this routinely for review.

About you

You should be confident in working independently but also a keen team player. Being a clear and strong communicator that offers experience and understanding of supporting vulnerable people will be beneficial to the role. We are keen to invite interest that can demonstrate transferable skills within your career to date although full training and continuous professional development is offered.

You should also;

  • Be flexible to working duties and hours to meet the needs of the service,
  • Have excellent presentation & personal hygiene,
  • Have the ability to work in line with processes without constant supervision,
  • Be empathetic with service users and thier families/carers,
  • Have the ability to solve problems and work as part of a team,
  • Be self-motivated with good organisational abilities and the ability to work under pressure,
  • Have a caring nature and an understanding of the needs of older people.
