General Technician

Job Description

Purpose of the Role

  To prepare materials for manufacture, by use of hand and power tools, wood, metal fabricated/welded and composite structures. All work must be carried out to the highest standards from verbal, written or drawing specifications.

Key Responsibilities Job-Specific Responsibilities

• Reporting to the Advanced Technician, to be proficient in at least one specific Core Competency (see Appendix 1), and to have secondary skills in at least one other Core Competency.

General

• To adhere to the requirements of all relevant company procedures.

• To report any defects or defective equipment to the Advanced Technician promptly.

• To carry out any additional tasks as may be reasonably requested.

• To work off-site as required for individual contracts.

Health & Safety

• Adhere to all relevant Health and Safety Procedures and observe safe working practices.

• All work to be conducted in a safe manner using welding screens, Machine Guards etc.

• Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is to be used at all times.

• All tools and equipment are cleared away at the end of a task and the work area cleaned up.

• All hand tools are maintained in a safe useable condition.

• Advise the Advanced Technician or Team Leader of any Health or Safety issues promptly.

Competencies

 • Ability to read and build to technical drawings

• Flexibility to learn and acquire new skills

• Flexibility to work with minimal design definition on prototypes

• Ability to identify build related issues and feed back to Team Leader

• High workmanship and attention to detail

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

• Skilled in at least 1 core competency and able to increase skills in others with provided training

Experience

• Minimum 1 year specific experience in core competency 

General

  • The job holder will have a current driving licence

• Ability to be flexible and work outside core hours on occasion

• Ability to work in the UK with no restrictions

• Must meet security vetting criteria

• Participate in the performance review process, identifying development areas and strengths and undertaking continuous professional development.

• Participate in continuous improvement activities within the company

Appendix 1 – Specific Core Competencies

This role has the following specific core competency (delete as appropriate):

Fabrication/Fitting/Machining/Painting

• Preparation of materials by cutting, grinding bending, and drilling to form parts against drawings, sketches or verbal instruction.

• Machining of parts using; Lathe, Miller and Surface Grinder

• Assembling of parts using appropriate fixings

• Support to fabrication of mechanical parts.

• Preparation and painting of bare material when necessary.

Electrical Fitting

• Mechanical assembly of components into control and distribution panels etc.

• Panel wiring

• Making up cable looms including crimped and/or soldered terminations

• Mechanical installation of electrical equipment.

• Wiring of lighting and power circuit
