Join us as a Hedge Accounting Manager

  • In this key role, you’ll be managing the profit and loss volatility generated by derivative hedging instruments using a range of methodologies
  • We’ll look to you to manage the hedge accounting processes of the bank and the controls framework

What you'll do

As a Hedge Accounting Manager, you’ll be supporting the accounting standards requirements, including effectiveness testing, external disclosures and the development of a robust methodology to support persistency arguments, underpinning the bank's macro cash flow hedging programme.

By maintaining effective cash flow and fair value accounting hedges for the bank, you’ll also be linking external and internal derivatives to the range of underlying balance sheet positions using knowledge and systems.

Through the course of your work, you’ll be:

  • Providing technical accounting guidance to support with the structuring of transactions
  • Working with business finance functions to resolve outstanding issues and make sure a robust control framework is in place
  • Working with IT support to develop the bank’s hedge accounting platform
  • Supporting projects across the wider team including hedge accounting support for strategic projects
  • Producing and reviewing management information for distribution to senior executives in treasury and other senior management
  • Understanding the drivers of the profit and loss derivative volatility and supporting the development of hedging solutions

The skills you'll need

To thrive in this role, you’ll need a track record of successfully applying accounting concepts to add value in a financial environment along with building relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the business.

You’ll also need a strong awareness of a controls environment for hedge accounting trades substantiation, and linking of hedge accounting trades to underlying transactions.

Additionally, you’ll need:

  • Technical knowledge of the requirements of international accounting standards and an understanding of emerging accounting requirements
  • Strong IT knowledge including good Microsoft Excel and Access skills
  • An understanding of market risk concepts with an awareness of accounting in a regulatory environment
  • The ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders across the business
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work across different teams and levels
