Job title: Principal Engineer - Mechanical Engineering (Secondary Propulsion)

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead rotor dynamic analysis tasks to inform equipment and system design and specification
  • Produce verification evidence to underpin system and equipment performance
  • Undertake model validation including comparison of predicted and test data at systems and equipment level
  • Provide direction to more junior engineers and undertake mentoring and coaching
  • Undertake peers' reviews / checking of rotor dynamics analysis deliverables
  • Opportunity for further training and development

Your skills and experiences:

  • Experience in rotor-dynamic analysis and/or machine design and dynamics
  • Experience with structural and rotor-dynamic analysis software advantages (ANSYS, CFX, Maxwell, Shaft Designer, Dyrobes or similar)
  • Masters level qualification including knowledge of: Rotor Dynamics. Tribology, Gear Design, Machine Design, Turbo Machinery Design or Electrical Machine Design
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards professional accreditation
  • Applicable industry experience: Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Automotive (Engine or Powertrain), Nuclear, Marine, Defence and Aerospace

The Secondary Propulsion team:

As part of the Secondary Propulsion Team, you will be involved in the design and development of the propulsion plant across all major systems and equipment alongside specifying and supporting the procurement of propulsion equipment. This will be an opportunity to help build a rotor-dynamics capability within the BAE Systems Submarines business to support delivery if the next generation of Nuclear Submarines for the Royal Navy.
