Job Description

The job itself

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced Town Planner to work within the Planning Service at Senior Officer level.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is one of the largest Unitary Authorities in England, with a strong track record of delivering high quality services on behalf of our residents. The Planning Services deals with more than 6,500 planning applications and enquiries each year and is one of the busiest planning departments in the country. We cover a varied area of urban, rural and coastal locations which in itself provides a number of exciting and diverse planning challenges. We stretch from a boundary with the City of York across the Yorkshire Wolds (which are currently being considered for AONB status), to the chalk sea cliffs at Flamborough Head, down to Spurn Point and adjoining the City of Hull. We are committed to supporting professional development without our teams and delivering a top class service to our customers, and we are looking for people who share these values.

We can offer a wide variety of experience in terms of application types and locations, and excellent training opportunities within a planning authority that is nationally recognised and respected. The successful candidate will be expected to manage a large and varied caseload of planning applications and pre-application enquiries, which will involve a mix of minor and major proposals for housing, employment, tourism, agricultural and infrastructure developments, and will be expected to mentor and support junior staff within their team. Training opportunities will be plentiful, we hold monthly training events, regular away days and support and encourage individuals who may wish to further their qualifications or achieve professional membership of the RTPI. This is therefore a great opportunity for the successful candidate to broaden their experience and grow their CV.

The Council is based in the beautiful market town of Beverley which is a great place to live and work, and offers benefits including the Local Government Pension Scheme, paid professional subscriptions, support for CPD and other training opportunities and discounted gym membership. We also operate a blended working approach and flexible working hours, with a mix of office and home working, to suit the needs of the business and our employees. We look forward to hearing from you.
