Salary: £63,000 - 81,000 depending on skills & experiences plus executive benefits

You will be the technical lead delivering a complex state of the art integrated torpedo system into the future underwater battle space, aligned with the UK defence and export strategic objectives.

Assuming responsibility for the Sting Ray Lightweight Torpedo Product Roadmap and IP Framework, coordinating with in-house Technology Roadmaps to preserve the system's competitive advantage internationally will be how you leave your mark in this role.

What you'll be doing:

  • Providing technical insight and taking ownership of system requirements, operational performance, and weapon behaviours
  • Leading system definition to deployed operation, ensuring compliance with contractual, safety, security, regulatory, and legislative requirements
  • Driving product enhancement requirements and influencing obsolescence resolution, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Collaborating with Sector Technologists to understand customer priorities and anticipate future technology developments
  • Developing and overseeing relevant Product Plans, incorporating necessary technologies and solutions
  • Leading internal and external technical reviews for product system design and associated supporting systems, directly liaising with and influencing customer stakeholders
  • Collaborating with the broader business to share information and experiences
  • Serving as the technical lead, actively participating in business-winning and bid management activities

Your skills and experiences:

Seeking a seasoned professional with:

  • Strong background in System Engineering and complex product management
  • Experience working with stakeholders and proven track record in future product development
  • Leadership skills and ability to take ownership of customer requirements for system design
  • Experience of delivering operational systems
  • Higher education degree (or equivalent) in a STEM field

Expertise in:

  • Systems Engineering principles and approaches
  • Relevant standards such as ISO 15288

Experience in:

  • Leading large-scale complex system designs
  • Complete Engineering Lifecycle, including different lifecycle models (e.g., Waterfall, Agile)
  • Requirements management using contemporary tools (e.g. IBM DOORS Next)
  • Underwater weapons systems, which would be useful

The Sting Ray team:

In your capacity as the System Design Authority, you will use your in-depth knowledge of Systems Engineering to tackle challenging engineering problems with products and systems, guaranteeing the Sting Ray Weapon System's continuous efficacy and safety.

You will be supported in growing your knowledge across contemporary and emerging fields such as Model Based Engineering (MBE and MBSE), Digital Thread, Digital Twins, Future Air Dominance solutions and Underwater Battlespace solutions.

Working together with both internal and external stakeholders, such as the British and Norwegian Armed Forces, and the UK Ministry of Defence, to guarantee alignment and engagement while promoting product improvements, such as technology upgrades and obsolescence resolution, to extend the life of the weapon system.
