TITAN Travel Mentor

Travel Independence Training Across Norfolk (TITAN)

We are looking to recruit new engaging and motivational TITAN Travel Mentors to our successful team.

There are various roles available ranging from casual work, to full time and part time as well as a full time, fixed term contract for 12 months.

We are looking for Travel Mentors in most areas of Norfolk and roles will involve travel in the community, although you will be allocated a locality close to where you live. Therefore, a full driving licence and access to a car is required for the role.

As a TITAN Travel Mentor, you will support young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and adults at risk to become confident, independent travellers. Travel Independence Training Across Norfolk (TITAN) is a comprehensive programme that offers training, both in schools and in the community. It empowers the individual to become part of their community; opening a world of new opportunities to take part in further education and employment as well as becoming more socially active.

The role is extremely rewarding, and you will see a positive change in the people you support. Engaging with someone who may never have travelled independently before and seeing their confidence grow is always great to see. You will be delivering a range of activities which enable individuals to overcome barriers. Supporting them to believe in their potential and develop their skills to become independent travellers.

Travel training takes place in a variety of ways, you may be supporting someone in the community or help a young person travel on their actual home to school journey. For example, one session you could be at the young person’s school delivering a 1-2-1 session on problem solving skills and the next be out practicing a journey on public transport with them. At the end of each session, you will track the progress made using our simple tracking system and liaise with your dedicated Locality Coordinator to discuss how the session progressed.

Our training is truly bespoke and therefore flexibility is a key skill for our Travel Mentors. You will enjoy working with people and being in the local community each day. As well as building a good rapport with trainees you also need to be able to work well with families, carers, and other key stakeholders to build positive relationships. You will be in the community for much of your role and you will be able to use mobile technology to access and use information from a variety of sites which will offer flexibility and reduce travelling time. You may also, if you wish, do some work at home.
