UX Research Specialist
up to £45,000.00 pa + Bonus + Pension + BUPA + ShareSave + 6.6 weeks holiday + hybrid working

As a B&Q UX Research Specialist, you will use your curiosity, empathy and interpretive skills in the delivery of research solutions for a number of digital services, products and features. You will be responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery of research, identifying key insights that will be used to inform the design and strategic direction. With a wide and interesting remit, there is the opportunity to work on propositions, services and products from conception through to feature and component delivery.

You will be a part of a multi-disciplined team, working particularly closely with designers and product owners to support them in identifying a need for and in understating the output of research, in order to deliver innovative and high crafted experiences to our customers.

Key responsibilities

As UX Research Specialist you will:

  • Identify when research would be valuable, setting objectives, and advising what methodology would be most appropriate for the needs of the project
  • Translate observations into digestible, valuable, actionable insights
  • Participate in knowledge sharing between research team members, drive consolidation of insights and building of a shared knowledge bank
  • Synthesis existing research from a variety of sources, for clear next steps and new lines of enquiry
  • Suggest new research areas where richer insight about trends and behaviours could be valuable
  • Be the gatekeeper of the products you and your team work on, and accountable for the experience / design and how it relates research findings

  • Apply strategic thinking to identify what's important and prioritise recommendations, supporting the design lead and product owners to prioritise design work and backlog
  • Turn preliminary feedback around quickly, with deeper-dive insights as a follow-up
  • Challenge established perspectives and approaches with sound insights backed up by factual examples
  • Support through the design process, collaborating with designers, helping them to resonate with identified customer problems and needs
  • Participate in and contribute to design critiques and post project reviews
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation by sharing new technologies and industry design trends
  • Be a voice and champion for the value of research and Design Research best practice, encourage the product and research teams to try new approaches and ways of doing things

You will have experience with:

  • Reviewing / interpreting web analytics data to inform design decisions
  • Working in an Agile multidisciplinary delivery team
  • Practicing hypothesis driven design
  • Online research tools and video editing software
  • Using prototyping, testing and documenting tools
  • A recognised degree qualification in design, psychology, HCI, market research or similar
