Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
1st Line Defence primarily supports the UK construction industry in providing various services to ensure that the risk of encountering buried unexploded ordnance (UXO) on sites across the UK and around the world is correctly assessed and mitigated.
To achieve this, the expertise and experience of Reservist and Ex-Military Personnel is paramount. We employ 50+ former members of the Armed Forces and 10 Reservist Personnel, all engineers with EOD qualifications. The specialist knowledge and training that they received in the military is key to the success of the services that we provide. Not only this, but we find time and time again that their professionalism, work ethic, adaptability, preparedness and ability to problem solve is second to none. We have also always been keen to employ ex-service personnel in non-EOD office roles because of these attributes.
Because we recognise the value of employing veterans and reservists, we were very keen to sign up to and advocate the Armed Forces Covenant, and are committed to its values.
About us
1st Line Defence was founded in 2011 by Managing Director Brett Kinsman, an ex-Army veteran and UXO professional who served for 12 years as a bomb disposal engineer in the British Army.
After leaving the Army, Brett worked for several commercial UXO companies in the UK before setting up his own business. Brett’s passion, dedication and expertise has led to the development of one of the largest UXO specialist contractors in the UK, offering services across the country and internationally, for both land and marine projects.
Based in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, we provide bespoke solutions to the risk posed from explosive ordnance and munitions buried in the ground and underwater – serving commercial, governmental and humanitarian organisations. We are always looking for talented, passionate individuals to join our team and help us achieve our goals.
