Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
At East Cambridgeshire District Council, we are collaborating closely with partners to support all members of the Armed Forces Community through our action plan. One particular focus is on engagement with services spouses, civil partners, and other family members to provide them with information about, and opportunities to work, at East Cambridgeshire District Council.
With RAF Wyton, RAF Wittering, RAF Barnham, RAF Honington, MRTC Bassingbourn, and other smaller stations commutable distances from East Cambridgeshire we know there are a high number of eligible members of the Armed Forces Community that could become valued team members of the council.
Our internal Armed Forces Covenant action plan seeks to address the disadvantages that all members of the Armed Forces Community face, and we plan to progress the ERS awards to Gold in the coming years.
About us
The District Council was formed in 1974 and is based in Ely. The offices are within two minutes walking distance from leisure and shopping facilities. The Council operates a “Smoke Free” policy within its premises and grounds.
The Council directly provides a range of services, typical of a small District Council. The Council has established two Trading Companies – East Cambs Trading Company (ECTC) and East Cambs Street Scene (ECSS). ECTC was established in 2016 and manages the district’s city market, open spaces and the development of new homes. ECSS provides the Recycling and Waste service across the District.
The Council also works in partnership with both the private and voluntary sector to provide a range of other services including leisure facilities. The Council is also a partner in the Anglia Revenues Partnership to deliver revenues and benefits services with four other local authorities - Breckland, Forest Heath, Fenland, East Suffolk and West Suffolk. The Council has transferred its housing stock to a Housing Association.
