Forces Children Scotland

Description

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

As an Armed Forces affiliated charity, we promote being an Armed Forces friendly employer through our charity policies, recruitment strategy, and employee terms and conditions. We commit to promoting our Armed Forces friendly charity status in all publicity material, public relations exercises, and with external stakeholders.

We will continue to support serving members and reservists who are employed by Forces Children Scotland to attend training and/or mobilisations as required. This may be paid or unpaid depending on circumstances. We are also committed to supporting the families of those in the wider military community by providing flexible employment opportunities to enable them to work from home or more flexibly as required.

We are committed to promoting the needs of the wider military family via involvement in civic events, developing focused publicity materials, and shaping the political narrative for future generations of military families within the community.

About us

Forces Children Scotland supports children and young people from armed forces communities to overcome unique challenges associated with forces life to realise their potential and thrive.

We provide a range of opportunities and experiences for children and young people to:

  • Enhance understanding and adopt strategies to overcome unique challenges to mental health and wellbeing, education and learning, and much more.
  • Attend life-changing residentials and youth forum activities to develop new skills, build confidence, and forge new connections across Scotland.
  • Amplify their lived experience, creativity, and views which are at the heart of campaigns to help others to understand what it means to be a forces child today.
  • Overcome financial barriers to dream big, enhance independence, pursue their passions, and explore all avenues when it comes to positive futures.
  • Contribute their lived experience to co-develop continual professional development resources that assist educators and professionals to adapt practice.
  • Understand and uphold their rights as children and young people, and champion meaningful change when it comes to participation in future policymaking.
