Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
The Foundation of Light achieved the Silver award of the Ministry of Defence’s Employee Recognition Scheme in 2020, cementing our support for the Defence and the Armed Forces’ community. The Foundation is a strong advocate that those who serve or who have served in the Armed Forces, and their families.
Sunderland AFC and the Foundation have a rich heritage of showing their support for the Armed Forces community and over the last few years have created a range of initiatives, including the employment of veterans, offering flexibility to reservist employees and families of serving personnel.
About us
The Foundation of Light is the official charity of Sunderland AFC and over the last 20 years we have used the power of football to support communities across Sunderland, South Tyneside and County Durham to live happier and healthier lives. Working with over 20,000 people each year across 40 programmes, we tackle some of the biggest societal challenges including obesity, poor mental health, social isolation, anti-social behaviour and unemployment.
