Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service

Description

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant is to recognise the sacrifice made by those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces and their families, by ensuring their service does not place them at a disadvantage. We provide support and flexibility as we recognise the value that members of the armed forces and their families bring to our organisation; our organisation aims to help make the transition as easy as possible.

The support we provide includes:

  • Providing flexibility
  • Supporting employees who wish to be a member of the Reserve Forces
  • Promoting that we are an Armed Forces-Friendly organisation
  • Employing reservists, armed forces veterans (including the wounded, injured and sick), cadet instructors, and military spouses/partners.

About us

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service covers an area of approximately 500 square miles which includes an airport; a complex major motorway network; 200 train and tram stations; large industrial, heritage and protected wildfire sites; and over one million homes. From modern inner-city developments to traditional mill towns, Greater Manchester is made up ten varied districts and presents some of the most operationally varied challenges you can find.

The Service’s primary function is to provide to the best emergency response possible and we have embraced modern technology and procedures to do things quicker, safer, with less people and with less impact on the environment. We place a firm emphasis on fire prevention, and our firefighters spend a great deal of time promoting fire safety within the community through visiting homes, school visits, running safety campaigns, carrying out building inspections to make sure that local businesses are complying with fire safety regulations, and they also work closely with other public services and community organisations.
