Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

Hertford Town Council has made a commitment to work closely and to support current and former armed forces personnel and their families through:

Promoting the fact that we are Armed Forces-friendly by:

  • displaying the Armed Forces Covenant logo

Supporting members of the Reserve Forces by:

  • Armed Forces Friendly Personnel Policies
  • attending opportunities to engage with the Reserve Forces

Supporting the employment of Service spouses and partners by:

  • advertising appropriate vacancies with Forces Families Jobs
  • engaging with the military Families Federations

Supporting the employment of veterans and service leavers by:

  • recognising military skills and qualifications
  • advertising appropriate vacancies with the Career Transition Partnership

Supporting employees who are members of the military cadet organisations by:

  • actively encouraging and supporting local cadet organisations
  • choosing a Mayor’s Cadet
  • attending opportunities to engage with local cadet units

Supporting national events either in person or across social media by:

  • taking part in Armed Forces week
  • the Poppy Appeal Day
  • Remembrance Day activities.

About us

Hertford Town Council has 16 active Councilors in Hertford, across the wards of Bengeo, Castle, Kingsmead and Sele.

The Council appoints Committees and Sub-Committees in the following areas:

  • Finance, Policy and Administration Committee
  • Planning Sub-committee
  • Community Services Committee
  • Development & Leisure Committee
  • Personnel Sub-committee. 

Hertford Town Council also manages cemetery and closed churchyards, allotments, town and tourism, and have a number of grants available to help local organisations, charities or Hertford based community projects.

The Mayor of Hertford is elected by their fellow Councilors at the first meeting of the Council in the municipal year, and represents Hertford at Civic events and functions, and local community events.

Hertford Town Council also host many public events within the grounds of Hertford Castle.
