Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

High Life Highland (HLH) signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2016, attaining the Bronze Award in 2018, the Silver Award in 2019 and Gold in 2020.

  • HLH is committed to supporting employees who are Reservists and ensures that employees are afforded the necessary time off to meet the requests of Reservist mobilisation. 
  • HLH’s Special Leave Policy allows Reservists and CFAVs to attend annual training camp from between 5 to 15 days with pay.
  • HLH’s Chief Executive, an RAF veteran, is a mentor for the Officers Association of Scotland, assisting service leavers as they transition into civilian life.
  • HLH offers Armed Forces families (including Reservists and CFAVs) access to facilities and activities through its highlife scheme whereby they receive a 50% discount on their scheme subscription. Membership offers access to a range of health and fitness opportunities and secures access to a range of local benefits including discounts on legal, hospitality and shopping services.
  • HLH’s Community Learning and Development Support Officer represents the Charity on the local Military Liaison Group.

About us

High Life Highland is a charity that develops and promotes opportunities in culture, learning, sport, leisure, health and wellbeing throughout the Highlands of Scotland.

HLH believes that many of the skills Service leavers can offer, such as communication, organisational, leadership and management, health and safety and team working are highly transferable and desirable within the Charity’s areas of work, such as: Youth Work and Adult Learning; in Leisure Centres and Personal Training; Active Schools Coordinators; Libraries; Museums; Archives; Music Tuition and Outdoor Activities.

HLH currently employs Veterans and Reservists in some of the following roles:

  • Leisure Assistants, Supervisors and Personal Trainers in Leisure facilities;
  • Youth Development Officers;
  • Estates Management;
  • Outdoor Activities instructors;
  • Music Instructors in schools.
