Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
We have a responsibility to ensure that Armed Forces personnel are not disadvantaged as a result of serving their country and should receive fair and proper treatment in recognition of their commitment and sacrifice. The Council is committed to supporting the Armed Forces Community and their families. We signed the Community Covenant in 2014 and hold the Armed Forces Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award. During recruitment, we guarantee an interview to veterans (who have served in the past 3 years) providing they meet the minimum essential criteria for the role. During employment, we grant up to two weeks additional paid leave if an employee is a volunteer member of the Non-Regular Forces and required to attend a 'Summer Camp' or some other form of continuous training. The Council’s Housing and Communities teams support the wider community, with advice on local social housing and accessing the private rented sector, as well as adaptations and equipment within the home to help residents to remain living independently and safely.
