House of Commons

Description

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

The Speaker of the House of Commons signed the Armed Forces Covenant in June 2021, committing the House to a series of pledges to help support the Armed Forces community.  The House of Commons achieved the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme silver accreditation in June 2023. We are committed to actively promoting our job opportunities to the Armed Forces community, including their families - Service Spouses and Partners.

About us

The House of Commons is the democratically elected house of the UK Parliament, responsible for making laws and checking the work of Government. Typically, every 5 years the UK public elects 650 Members of Parliament (MPs) to represent their interests and concerns in the House of Commons. MPs consider and propose new laws and can scrutinise government policies by asking ministers questions about current issues either in the Commons Chamber or in Committees. This makes the House of Commons a unique and exciting place to work by being at the heart of our thriving democratic system.

Behind the scenes, the House of Commons Service is made up of 3,000+ employees that support and facilitate the smooth day to day running of the House by providing professional services to Members of Parliament, their staff, and the wider parliamentary community. We have a wide range of opportunities available in a variety of areas such as Hospitality, Customer Service, Security, Maintenance, Construction and many more…

Together, our mission is to support a thriving parliamentary democracy and everyone in the House Service has a part to play in helping to make this happen.
