Officers' Association Scotland

Description

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

The Officers’ Association Scotland is committed to ensure that Officers and their families from the tri services are fully supported.  We exist to provide lifelong support, resources, employment training and financial welfare assistance to officers and their families throughout their transition to civilian life. We will seek to uphold the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant, by:

  • Promoting the Armed Forces: promoting the value of hiring military personnel to Employers across the sectors.
  • Veterans: supporting the employment of veterans, recognising military skills and qualifications in our recruitment and selection process; working with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) to support the employment of Service leavers
  • Service Spouses & Partners: supporting the employment of Service spouses and partners; providing flexibility in granting leave for Service spouses and partners before, during and after a partner’s deployment.
  • Reserves: supporting our employees who are members of the Reserve Forces; granting additional 10 days paid leave for annual Reserve Forces training; supporting any mobilisations and deployment; actively encouraging members of staff to become Reservists
  • Cadet Organisations: supporting our employees who are volunteer leaders in military cadet organisations, granting additional leave to attend annual training camps and courses; actively encouraging members of staff to become volunteer leaders in cadet organisations; supporting local military cadet units; recognising the benefits of employing cadets/ex-cadets within the workforce.
  • National Events: supporting Armed Forces Day, Reserves Day, the Poppy Appeal Day and Remembrance activities.

About us

The Officers’ Association is a registered charity, founded in 1920. We provide advice and financial help to relieve distress and hardship amongst those who have held a Commission in the Armed Forces, their families and dependants. We also support officers in their transition into civilian employment, thus meeting our purpose to aid, assist and promote the interests of all such persons.

As the only Tri-Service charity to support the officer corps, we exist to help officers find employment and to provide advice and support to relieve hardship amongst those who have held a commission in the Armed Forces.

· We work with serving, reservist and former officers to help them achieve a sustainable and fulfilling transition from military to civilian employment.

· We champion the skills and qualities of the officer job seeker to employers and provide evidence-based research in support of our work.

· We work with employers so they can understand how best to recruit former military personnel and can recognise the business case for doing so.

· We deliver a programme of workshops, research and networking opportunities to connect employers directly to officer job seekers.
