Rochdale Borough Council

Description

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

Rochdale was the first of the GM Authorities to recruit a dedicated Armed Forces Key Worker. This has enabled us to offer one to one assistance during and outside of office hours, and we have established a network of provision that allows us to support our Armed Forces families with practical advice on welfare issues.

Rochdale Council have introduced many policies and initiatives, including but not limited to:

  • Work with regular and reserve units and veterans offering free weekly sessions and the use of its main Council building and its library.
  • We meet with cadet units to promote opportunities for Cadets.
  • Dedicated pages on the Council website promoting events, assistance and support, and also via our Social Media platforms.
  • Free access to leisure/fitness facilities and swimming pools for all regular, reservist, serving personnel and unemployed veterans.
  • We support Armed Forces Week – flag raising ceremonies.
  • We work with housing developers to name individual streets in support of our Armed Forces family.
  • We have organised a number of civic street naming ceremonies.
