Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
United Utilities signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2013 and was awarded Employer Recognition Scheme Gold in 2016.
The company supports recruiting its employees into the Reserves and offers 10 days additional paid leave for reservist employees and Cadet Force Civilian Volunteers to attend training. Our annual intake of graduates, apprentices and NEETs are actively encouraged to join, with local Reserve units delivering taster days, recruiting presentations and display stands. Reserves Day in June remains a key-fixture in our engagement calendar, with Reserve units invited to our HQ.
UU is also committed to supporting veterans transitioning from the military and has attended many regional employment fairs sponsored by the Officers’ Association, CTP and the regional engagement team. The UU Armed Forces Network has around 50 veterans, Reservists and Cadet Force Civilian Volunteers.
About us
United Utilities is a FTSE 100 listed company which provides water and wastewater services to over 7 million customers. From Crewe to Carlisle, our offices and water and wastewater treatment sites span the whole of the North West providing great water and more for the region.
Every day, we deliver 1.8 billion litres of water to more than 3 million homes and businesses in the North West, as well as treating all the wastewater which disappears around the U-bend.
Keeping the region flowing relies on a vast behind the scenes operation, involving hundreds of reservoirs, treatment works and pumping stations; thousands of kilometres of water pipes and sewers and a 5,500 strong workforce.
We also help protect over 1,300km of coastline and around 7,000km of rivers that flow across our region. We are committed to understanding the key factors of our unique region and its landscape, so that we can continue to provide the best service to our customers, day-in, day-out.
