Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
As the largest teaching hospital across the Southwest UHBW is extremely committed to supporting the Defence and Armed Forces community. The Trust uses its external website to promote the support provided to members of the armed forces. In addition the Trust has launched an updated guide for recruiting managers to increase understanding of the guaranteed interview scheme for service personnel.
The Trust has an established relationship with the Royal Naval Reserve (HMS Flying Fox) whose former Commanding Officer is a consultant anaesthetist with the Trust. The Trust also works with the RAMC Reserve - 243 Field Hospital - and is currently developing relationships with 6th Battalion The Rifles and RMR Bristol. These relationships have resulted in a number of new recruits to the local reserve forces units and a wider increased knowledge of the mutual benefits of a closer working relationship with the Armed Forces and supporting charities.
The Trust utilises the skills of its Armed Forces veterans to create unique recruitment opportunities across the Trust including Emergency Medicine Global Health programme which promotes the opportunity to offer direct assistance to developing health economies.
The Trust is a regular participant in the Southwest Military Challenge as an outward commitment to our support for the Armed Forces. Annually the Trust celebrates Armed Forces Day with an event in conjunction with our Armed Forces partners and the Royal British Legion to increase awareness of our partnerships but also to increase staff and visitor awareness of the opportunities available across the reserve forces.
