University of Leicester

Description

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

The University of Leicester was formed in the aftermath of WWI and we are honouring that legacy by supporting the Armed Forces Covenant. Not only were we founded as a living memorial to those who lost their lives, the Fielding Johnson building was used as a Military Hospital during the Great War and we have supported students joining the military through membership of the East Midlands Universities Officer Training Corps for the last 100 years.

Due to our heritage, we have always had a deep connection with the military and recognise the value that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families bring to our country. We are fully committed to ensuring that both regular and reserve serving personnel, their family members and veterans are made aware of the wide range of employment opportunities that the University can offer and receive the necessary support when applying for roles with us.

About us

We have a proud history, founded in the aftermath of World War I as the UK’s only living memorial to those who made sacrifices in the Great War. Our motto – Ut Vitam Habeant, ‘so that they may have life’ – reflects our values to do justice to the hopes and expectations of those on whose shoulders we now stand, striving to make a difference in everything that we do.

While proud of our heritage, Leicester is a university that keeps an eye on the future. Today, our University is a global player in education and research, adapting to changing landscapes and seizing opportunities to shape the future.
