Casual Gardener and Handyperson

RAFAKidz Nursery, RAF Brize Norton OX18 3LX

About us

All children are special but at RAFAKidz we believe our children are extra special. RAFAKidz is one of the chosen providers of nursery services to the RAF (Royal Air Force). As part of the wider RAF Association, we are passionate about providing fantastic support to RAF families.  Our nursery at RAF Brize Norton is one of 14 settings in the RAFAKidz family. The nursery itself has around one hundred children with spaces in continued demand, supported by a team of 30 employees

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic gardener / handyperson who will take pride in ensuring that our gardens and external areas remain in a good condition so that our children and staff have a safe environment in which to play. This role is ideally suited to someone looking for flexibility with their time and has some experience of gardening and general outside maintenance as it is important that our settings are safe and attractive to current and prospective users.

A typical day could involve mending a dripping tap, changing light bulbs, whizzing the lawn mower around and possibly a lick of paint to freshen up the play areas. A great attitude and a good sense of humour along with some basic DIY skills would be a great fit for this role.

This is a ‘hands on’ role which offers great flexibility. A moderate level of fitness will be required as you will be planting, watering, weeding, pruning and taking general care of plants as well as digging over beds, sand pits and mud pits as needed. You will also ensure sheds, outside furniture and equipment are in good order and assist staff with the storage of gardening and outside equipment to ensure equipment is stored safely. During icy weather, you will help with clearing and gritting walkways.

If you love getting children involved in meaningful and rewarding activities such as den building, forest school and growing plants and vegetables then this job is 100% for you! Working hours will be mutually agreed with yourself and the Nursery Manager and will vary according to the needs of the setting.

If you can bring a creative, self-motivated and positive attitude then we would love to hear from you! A full job description is available to download on our website www.rafakidz.org.uk To apply,  please send your CV to jobs@rafakidz.org.uk

This role requires a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check on appointment and every three years thereafter.
