Job Description

Casual Gardener and Handyperson

New Nursery – Opening April 2024

RAFAKidz Nursery, RAF Cosford, Albrighton WV7 3EX

£11.44 per hour

Just like our children, we are growing! RAFAKidz started out as one of the chosen providers of nursery services to the RAF community. We are excited to announce that we have been invited to bring our expertise and touch of magic to a brand-new setting to provide high quality affordable childcare at RAF Cosby. The nursery  is one of 14 settings in the RAFAKidz family and opened in April. Initially we will have circa 20 employees and places for 100 children. The nursery has fabulous gardens, sensory rooms and a full time Chef.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic gardener / handyperson who will take pride in ensuring that our gardens and external areas remain in a good condition so that our children and staff have a safe environment in which to play. This role is ideally suited to someone looking for flexibility with their time and has some experience of gardening and general outside maintenance as it is important that our settings are safe and attractive to current and prospective users.

A typical day could involve mending a dripping tap, changing light bulbs, whizzing the lawn mower around and possibly a lick of paint to freshen up the play areas. A great attitude and a good sense of humour along with some basic DIY skills would be a great fit for this role.

This is a ‘hands on’ role which offers great flexibility. A moderate level of fitness will be required as you will be planting, watering, weeding, pruning and taking general care of plants as well as digging over beds, sand pits and mud pits as needed. You will also ensure sheds, outside furniture and equipment are in good order and assist staff with the storage of gardening and outside equipment to ensure equipment is stored safely. During icy weather, you will help with clearing and gritting walkways.

If you love getting children involved in meaningful and rewarding activities such as den building, forest school and growing plants and vegetables then this job is 100% for you! Working hours will be mutually agreed with yourself and the Nursery Manager and will vary according to the needs of the setting.

If you can bring a creative, self-motivated and positive attitude then we would love to hear from you! A full job description is available to download on our website www.rafakidz.org.uk To apply,  please send your CV to jobs@rafakidz.org.uk

Closing Date Wednesday 8 May

We reserve the right to close this opportunity early and applicants who meet the criteria may be offered an interview ahead of the advertised closing date so please do not delay in applying as we’d love to hear from you!
