Job Description

This role at Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is available specifically to people who served in the Armed Forces, OR be in your resettlement period and due to leave the Armed Forces within a reasonable time frame OR Military Spouse/Partner: Your current partner must still be serving OR was discharged within the last 12 months.

DVSA is an executive agency, sponsored by the Department for Transport. We carry out driving tests, approve people to be driving instructors and MOT testers, carry out tests to make sure lorries and buses are safe to drive, carry out roadside checks on drivers and vehicles, and monitor vehicle recalls.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a great opportunity for those who want to gain experience and learn the process of data protection standards.Successful candidates will undertake an apprenticeship as part of the role, gaining qualifications in data protection standards.

Main Duties:

  • Maintain the central record of the personal data we process, how we process it, where it is stored, who we share it with and how long we keep it for.

  • Ensure that privacy notices, data sharing and offshoring activities are done so in line with data protection law and all appropriate documentation is updated.

  • Respond to data protection requests from individuals.

  • Produce and present reports on how compliant DVSA is with data protection law and identify any risks and actions.

  • Manage DVSA’s assessment against the Information Commissioner’s data protection accountability standards.

  • Manage data protection impact assessments.

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify risks to personal data and how best we could address those risks.

  • Produce and issue relevant training and awareness materials for all colleague and supplier staff.

  • Manage data protection incidents – this will include assessing the incident, notifying individuals and identifying lessons learned.

  • Produce incident reports looking at trends and any further improvements that can be implemented.

    Manage risks on the team risk register

    Carry out management responsibilities in line with Civil Service Code, values and DVSA policies.

     

    We are looking for candidates who can:

    • Communicate well with colleagues and suppliers

    • Organise and prioritise your time effectively

    • Effectively use different IT applications, for example SharePoint, Outlook, Teams

    • Analyse information and identify any potential risks

    • Have attention to detail

     

    Apprenticeship

    • Undertake the L4 Data Protection and Information Governance apprenticeship with Damar training with at least 6 hours a week learning time.
