Job Description

Ready to take your #engineering career to new heights? From the Dassault Future Falcon to the Boeing 777X, from the F35 Joint Strike Fighter to new exciting hybrid electric opportunities the momentum at GE Aerospace has never been greater!

This role is perfect for anyone looking to grow their career as a Reliability, Maintainability and Testability (RM&T) Engineer, known internally as a Through Life Engineer, within an exciting industry. As a Through Life Engineer, which operates as an integral part of our Safety and TLE team, you will be responsible for performing Through Life Engineering tasks for safety critical systems in both civil and military aviation platforms as well as the renewables and industrial sector.

The Role & Essential Responsibilities

As a Through Life Engineer, you would be responsible for providing RM&T support to programmes across the whole product lifecycle. This involves working closely with the product development to:

  • Estimate how reliable a system will be in its intended use environment and document the results in the reliability assessment report.

  • Predict the ways in which a system will fail and analyse the effects of those failures on system operation and document the results of that analysis in the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis report.

  • Assess the effectiveness of built in test functionality to understand the likelihood a failure being detected by the system and isolated to the system.

  • Determine if the maintainability of a system supports aircraft maintenance requirements.

  • Create reliability test plans and procedures and document the results of testing performed.

Qualifications / Requirements

An appropriate degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Electronics, Applied Physics or similar subject, or equivalent experience.

You will be required to work in a team environment alongside peers in other engineering disciplines, so verbal communication and collaboration skills are essential to make you (& the team) most effective.

Being able to perform detailed and logical analyses, and documenting the results in a clear and concise way is key, so written communication and attention to detail is important.

Desired Characteristics

Experience of the systems design lifecycle will help you in activities such as capturing, understanding and documenting the customer’s system through life requirements. Good appreciation of the principles of Design for Reliability will aid in the generation of TLE assessments such as Reliability Predictions, FMEAs and maintainability analyses. Strong understanding of what makes a reliable and usable product is essential and strong communication and influencing skills are advantageous in this role.

Previous experience in an aviation, automotive or similar embedded systems development environment is helpful as it demonstrates understanding of working to rigorous industry mandated development standards; for example, ARP4754A and ARP4761. This shows a knowledge of working with complex system designs, for implementation in hardware and software.

Previous experience or knowledge of how the Reliability and Safety engineering activities interact.

Flexible Working

GE supports and encourages flexible working arrangements, where possible, and recognises the benefits to employees of having a positive work-life balance.

Total Reward

At GE Aviation we understand the importance of Total Reward. Our flexible benefits plan, called FlexChoice, gives you freedom, choice and flexibility in the way you receive your benefits, as well as giving you the opportunity to make savings where possible. As a new joiner to GE we are pleased to be able to offer you the following as default in your benefit fund, which you then can tailor to meet your individual needs;

  • Non-contributory Pension

  • Life Assurance

  • Group income protection

  • Private medical cover

  • Holiday Hourly equivalent of 26 days, with flexible option to buy or sell

Security Clearance

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required and must be maintained for this role. Please note that in the event that BPSS clearance cannot be obtained, you may not be eligible for the role and/or any offer of employment may be withdrawn on grounds of national security. Please see the link below for further details regarding the requirements for BPSS clearance: BPSS

Right to Work

Applications from job seekers who require sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, under the applicable UK immigration rules as may be in place from time to time, it may be that candidates who do not currently have the right to work in the UK may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled candidate who does not require sponsorship is available to take up the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

Experience of providing RM&T support in the engineering domain, such as performing reliability prediction and Failure Mode and Effects Analyses are advantageous, but not essential as on the job training will be provided. What is important is that you thrive on solving technical problems in collaboration with other engineering functions, have a systematic analytical mindset and are able to see engineering problems from multiple perspectives.
